Fort Sam Houston Elementary School

Ms. Ariana Rios » Welcome

Welcome to Ms. Rios’ Rainforest – Getting Wild in 1st Grade!

I am so excited to be starting my fourth year teaching at Fort Sam Houston Elementary! I love all of my students so much and love seeing them grow here at Fort Sam. Creating bonds with each of my students and their families is something that is extremely important to me. First grade proves to be one of the most valuable years for a child and I cannot wait to see each of my students grow over the year.

In first grade your child will be engaging in many hands-on activities. In Math, we will dive deep into numbers to 120 and begin learning about place value. In Science and Social Studies, we will learn about the world around us. You will see amazing progress in your child's reading ability. Together, in room 26, we will have a great year!

Please be sure to subscribe to my class website for updates! I will do LOTS of communication through this website.

Don't forget...our Fall Festival is this Thursday!
Our Fall Festival is this Thursday, October 20th from 5-7pm. There will be food, games, a petting zoo, and much more! Booths require tickets that can be purchased at the event!

We had a great time learning from the firefighters during Fire Prevention Week!
Learning about Heat Energy through Melting Kisses and Dirty Hands!
We learned that our body has heat through an experiment done with Hersey kisses! That kiss sure did melt when we held it in our hands for 5 minutes.
Gooey Oobleck today in Science!
We made Oobleck today (cornstarch and water). What was neat was that we could not figure out if it was a solid or liquid!
We had a great time at the Imaginasium today!
This is a room called a "Makerspace" where students get to let their creativity shine. It was made by our wonderful technology department, Dr. Rios and Ms. Freeman. We played with Bee-Bots, PVC Pipes, and a lego table. Can't wait to go back!
Cooler weather calls for a "cool" experiment!
We made ICE CREAM! By cooling different liquids we were able to make ice cream. It took a lot of shaking but we were up for the challenge!
Getting ready for Apple Day tomorrow with some Johnny Appleseed Writing! That Johnny sure was a good citizen!
We need YOUR help!
Next week we will be doing many different fun Science Experiments involving Matter (science, liquid, and gas). Most of these experiments have about 3-6 ingredients. I have created a sign-up genius if you would like to donate some of these items for our class:
Thank you for your help!
Today we colored our dots and using the app, Quiver, they were able to come alive! It was such a fun experience!
