Fort Sam Houston Elementary School

Dr. Joseph Cerna » Welcome

Welcome

Thank you for visiting my website.

We thank all members of the Fort Sam Houston learning community for an excellent 2018-2019 school year.  As we prepare for the 2019-2020 school year, we are guided by our shared vision:

Our vision is to promote a quality education, where every student is a learner, every learner is a graduate, and every graduate is a success.

This is accomplished through engaging learners in relevant and innovative literacy based instruction, opportunities for parent and community involvement, and activities that are mindful of the social emotional development of all learners.

Our ideology is reflected in our campus and F.S.H.I.S.D. beliefs and core values that guide us in our daily practices.  It is our duty to provide our families with superior service without fail.

The keynote for the 2019-2020 school year is, "Together We Can."  Our collective commitments at Fort Sam Houston Elementary target Student Outcomes, Effective Instruction, and Needs Based Professional Learning. Additionally, collaboration and partnerships with community agencies, families, and local businesses will be emphasized in order to support our campus program and reinforce Fort Sam Houston I.S.D. beliefs.

As always, we proudly serve military families and exist to serve the military child. We value and accentuate the talents of our uniquely diverse learning community including all students, parents, faculty and staff.

Parents, we appreciate your support and look forward to learning alongside your children as we are a community of learners.  Attendance is important for student success.  We believe that, "If you're not here, you're not learning."

Please ask your children about the Fort Sam Houston Cougar Cub House System. This system, inspired by the Ron Clark Academy, reinforces our campus wide expectations P.A.W.S. (Practice Respect, Accept Responsibility, Work Together, and Stay Safe) and a sense of belonging.  We explicitly teach and model P.A.W.S. throughout the school year and base our campus and classroom management systems in these expectations.

Again, thank you for your continued support.  I look forward to another excellent and memorable school year for all of us.

Respectfully,
J. Cerna, Ed. D.
