About Mrs. Karr

Dear Fort Sam Houston Elementary Families,

     My name is Katie Karr and I am the Early Elementary Instructional/Digital Coach. This is my fifth year at Fort Sam Houston Elementary. I have taught Kindergarten, First Grade, Second Grade, Third Grade and Fourth Grade. I am very excited to take on this new role and support our amazing teachers!

     This will be my 13th year in education. I have a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Northern Arizona University and a master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Colorado in Boulder. 

     My family and I moved to the San Antonio area four years ago and we really love this city!! Mr. Karr and I have two sons. Our older son is going into Third Grade here at FSHE and our younger son is 3 years old. As a family we like to go to sporting events and spend time at the lake.

     Just like your children, I also grew up a military child. My dad was a helicopter pilot in the Marine Corps for 32 years. In fact, as they say “once a Marine, always a Marine” is so true with my dad. He is now the Marine Corps liaison for Boeing in San Diego. I moved from base to base as a child. I know what it is like to be the new kid and make a new best friend every couple years. This was the reason I came to Fort Sam Houston. So I could build relationships with students who share the same unique childhood of being a military child.

     I am very excited to continue my educational career here at Fort Sam Houston Elementary!
