Hello! My name is Noemi Garcia (Maestra Garcia for my students), and I am excited to have the opportunity to help your child learn Spanish this school year. I look forward to sharing my love of the Spanish language and culture with all of you. Learning Spanish can help improve cognitive abilities such as memory and problem solving, enhancing cultural understanding and empathy by providing access to diverse cultures, literature, music and art.

In Spanish Class students will earn their grade by participation, effort, and behavior during class activities. Grades reflect how engaged and cooperative students are, not just the final outcome of their projects

A little about me

I graduated from the University of Texas in Brownsville with a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Bilingual Education and Spanish. Along with that I hold a Master's Degree in Curriculum and Instruction from the same University. I am also certified as an Educational Diagnostician from the University of Texas Pan-American, Special Education EC-12 and ESL. I have been in the education field for over 24 years. My first job in education was at a district Print Shop and moved into an Imagine Learning Computer Lab as an Educational Aide and so my career initiated.

Fun Facts about me:

* I love traveling and enjoying life with my family.

* My favorite food is non-spicy mexican dishes

* My favorite drink is Coke (and a Mexican Coca-Cola even better!)

* I am a dog mommy to two dogs. Channel (german shepherd) and Omari (a Yorkie)

* I also have a bearded dragon named Rex

Important Information

Supplies Needed:

I encourage students bring a composition book to take notes as we explore and learn new words

Pencils, crayons, glue sticks, craft supplies and tissue boxes are always welcome if someone would like to donate

Homework Policy:

Homework in Spanish will be very rare, however I do encourage students to practice verbal homework with siblings, parents, relatives and friends in a regular manner. Example: First homework will be to greet and say farewell in spanish. Hola, Adios.
