Fort Sam Houston ISD earns an A!

Once again, Fort Sam Houston ISD earns an A when it comes to the 2022 TEA Accountability Rating System!

Fort Sam Houston ISD is thrilled to have earned an A rating in keeping with the tradition of having exemplary schools that serve our military children.  The Texas Education Agency (TEA) grades schools and districts on three criteria: student achievement, student progress, and how well the school is closing its learning gaps.

The TEA’s rating system is very similar to the letter grades that students receive for their academic assignments. The agency uses the accountability system to evaluate the academic performance of Texas public schools.  Its overall rating is based on three domains, which include:

  • Student Achievement – evaluates performance across all subjects for students, on both general and alternate assessments; College, Career, and Military Readiness (CCMR) indicators; and graduation rates.  FSHISD earned a 93 (A) in this domain.
  • School Progress – measures district and campus outcomes in two areas that include the number of students that grew at least one year academically (or are on track) as measured by the STAAR results and the achievement of all students relative to districts or campuses with similar economically disadvantaged percentages. FSHISD earned an 84 (B) in this domain.
  • Closing the Gaps – uses disaggregated data to demonstrate differentials among racial/ethnic groups, socioeconomic backgrounds, and other factors.  FSHISD earned a 92 (A) in this domain.

FSHISD has much to be proud of when it comes to the results on our Texas Education Agency Report Card.  “Fort Sam Houston ISD staff and community have done an extraordinary job closing the learning gaps for our children that resulted from the COVID pandemic.  I am very proud of the work our school community has done and these results would not have been possible without the support of our parents and military community.  It truly takes a village!” said Superintendent of Schools,  Dr. Gary Bates.
