Mrs. Julie Blackstone, 4th grade teacher, FSHE's Teacher of the Year & Trinity Prize Distinguished Educator

Mrs. Julie Blackstone was 1 of only 19 exceptional teachers in the San Antonio area to have been chosen as distinguished educators and finalists for the 2017-18 Trinity Prize for Excellence in Teaching that recognizes and honors teaching as a profession and those who exemplify outstanding performance in public education. She was honored at a reception Wednesday, March 7th, and further gifted and awarded on Friday, April 20th at Trinity University. Mrs. Blackstone was recognized for her commitment and passion to education. Among her strengths is outstanding classroom performance, leadership in the school and school district, leadership in the education profession, and outstanding community service.

PK Teacher, Mrs. Neal, Wins Grant for an Imagination Playground at FSHE

National partners KaBOOM! and The CarMax Foundation provided a life-size creative play set to Fort Sam Houston Elementary on Friday, April 13th during the "Week of Play" thanks to a grant FSHE Pre-Kindergarten Teacher, Mrs. Jessica Neal applied for and won. The month of April is designated as the Month of the Military Child which was established to bring awareness to the important role children play in the armed forces community and to bring play opportunities to kids of veterans and active duty service members. FSHE Offers a Little Free Library to the FSH Community

People have placed small "give one, take one" book exchanges in front of their homes and now Fort Sam Houston Elementary School has one for our wonderful community. These small libraries turn strangers into friends by offering a give-and-take based system of books. Reading opens doors and when the military community is waiting on their household goods to arrive, a book to enjoy as a family can be a place of comfort and respite.
